Location Description
Gwangju metropolitan city is located in the southwestern part of South Korea, and it has a population of approximately 1.5 million people. Please note that there are two cities in South Korea named Gwangju.
Gwangju is known for its important role in democratic activism and there are several historical and cultural sites related to this.
One of the most famous is the May 18th National Cemetery, which honors the victims of the Gwangju Uprising, a pivotal moment in the country's struggle for democracy in 1980.
