Foundation Art & Design Tutor

UAL Foundation Diploma Programme

About HANA School of Arts

HANA School of Arts is a specialist art and design institution based in Seoul, South Korea.

As an officially approved provider of the University of the Arts London (UAL) Awarding Body Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, we support students who are preparing to progress to leading art and design universities in the UK and around the world.

Our programme combines structured foundation-level study with portfolio development, individual tutorials, and university application guidance.

Our students have successfully gained admission to internationally recognised institutions including:

  • University of the Arts London (UAL)

    • Central Saint Martins

    • London College of Fashion

    • Chelsea College of Arts

  • Goldsmiths, University of London

  • Architectural Association (AA) School of Architecture

  • and other leading international art and design schools

We are currently looking for a passionate and dedicated Art & Design Tutor who enjoys working closely with students and helping them develop their creative ideas, portfolios, and confidence as they prepare for university.

1. Key Responsibilities

As a tutor, you will work closely with students throughout their Foundation studies and university preparation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering the UAL Level 4 Foundation Diploma in Art & Design programme in English

  • Teaching and guiding students in accordance with the programme curriculum

  • Supporting students with portfolio development for applications to UK and international art and design universities, particularly UAL undergraduate programmes

  • Conducting individual tutorials, critiques, portfolio reviews, and occasional lectures

  • Helping students develop ideas through research, experimentation, concept development, and visual communication

  • Providing constructive feedback on sketchbooks, portfolios, artist statements, and personal statements

  • Assessing student progress and maintaining academic records, including assessment and grading in accordance with UAL Foundation Diploma requirements

  • Supporting students with university applications and interview preparation

  • Developing project briefs, lesson plans, and teaching materials

  • Participating in portfolio reviews, exhibitions, assessment activities, and selected school events

  • Collaborating with other members of the academic team to maintain high educational standards and positive student outcomes

This role is particularly suited to someone who enjoys both creative teaching and individual mentoring, and who understands the importance of helping students develop their own artistic voice rather than simply producing application-ready work.

2. Student Profile

Our students are mainly young adults preparing to apply to leading art and design universities in the UK and internationally.

Many are building their portfolios for the first time, while others are refining existing work for undergraduate applications.

As a result, tutors are expected to provide both practical guidance and thoughtful feedback tailored to each student's level, interests, and intended area of study.

  • Strong personal portfolio demonstrating creative practice

  • Experience teaching or mentoring students aged approximately 16–25

  • Excellent communication, mentoring, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to conduct classes, tutorials, and critiques confidently in English

4. Preferred Qualifications

We would especially welcome candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Graduate of a recognised UK art and design institution such as UAL, Goldsmiths, AA, RCA, or a similar institution

  • Experience teaching Foundation, undergraduate (BA), or postgraduate (MA) students

  • Experience preparing students for admission to UK art and design universities

  • Experience in portfolio development and portfolio reviews

  • Professional experience as a practising artist, designer, architect, or other creative professional

  • Experience working in an international school, overseas educational institution, or Korean educational environment

  • Familiarity with the expectations of UAL or other leading UK art and design programmes

5. Working Conditions

  • Position: Part-time Art & Design Tutor

  • Employment Type: Freelance / Part-time

  • Location: Gangnam area, Seoul, South Korea

  • Teaching Schedule: Classes may be scheduled in the morning, afternoon, or evening depending on student enrolment, subject area, and programme needs

  • Working Hours: Flexible and arranged based on the teaching schedule

  • Class Environment: Small class sizes with a strong focus on tutorials, critiques, and individual feedback

  • Compensation: Competitive and negotiable based on qualifications, teaching experience, professional background, and interview results

Tutors will work in a collaborative academic environment and may also have opportunities to participate in professional development and international academic collaboration.

6. Recruitment Process

The recruitment process is as follows:
