Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and proactive Elementary School Librarian who will serve as a thoughtful steward of our library and play a key role in fostering a vibrant reading culture among our youngest learners. This is not a passive role—we’re looking for someone who sees the school library as the heart of a literacy-rich environment and is excited to make it a joyful, organized, and inviting place for students and teachers alike.

Primary Responsibilities

Daily Library Operations

  • Oversee the daily functioning of the library, including shelving and maintaining the collection

  • Use an online library management platform to handle circulation, cataloging, and support student engagement with library resources

  • Keep the library space tidy, engaging, and student-friendly

  • Provide support to students in selecting books that match both their reading level and interests

Library Instruction & Literacy Support

  • Lead engaging library classes for lower elementary students

  • Design and implement programs that spark a love of reading

  • Partner with teachers to connect library resources to classroom projects and curriculum

Accelerated Reader (AR) and Star Reading Coordination

  • Oversee the Accelerated Reader (AR) and Star Reading (SR) programs, as an integral part of SIE Central's library instruction

  • Handle regular assessments, track results, and encourage goal setting and growth

  • Support students’ reading journeys in both structured and informal ways

Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Brings energy and initiative to the role—someone who wants to build something, not just maintain it

  • Believes deeply in the power of reading to shape young minds

  • Takes pride in creating a space where students feel inspired, curious, and safe

  • Is comfortable collaborating with teachers and offering support across grade levels

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Literature, Library Science, or a related field

  • Experience working in a school library or educational setting

  • Ability to learn to use a library management system as a key component of daily operations and collection oversight

  • Experience using or managing reading assessment platforms, particularly Accelerated Reader (AR) and Star Reading (SR), or a demonstrated ability to learn and implement them effectively

Eligibility to Work in Korea

Applicants must currently hold one of the following:

  • F-class residency visa

  • Korean citizenship

  • E-2 visa (preferred candidates should already be residing in Korea)
