Saint Paul American Scholars (SPAS) is designed to help teach young people to become responsible citizens and prepare students for college. That means that they must learn the key attributes of ethical behavior including courage, compassion, integrity, justice, truth, reason, fairness, respect, and honesty in addition to the core academic subjects.

 

A positive school climate is characterized by quality teaching by instructors and effective learning by students. This requires a safe environment for all who work in and attend SPAS along with an emphasis on citizenship and adherence to rules applied equitably and fairly to all in the Saint Paul Scholars community. We believe that parents are essential partners in the educational process and must be properly involved and accountable for the achievement and behavior of their children.

 

Saint Paul American Scholars is seeking a qualified professional to fill the role of a Secondary Math Teacher for upcoming openings in the 2024-2025 school year!  This position will mainly fill the needs we have for middle school math, but some lower high school math will also be included the teacher's weekly routine. 

 

The role is ASAP. We will be starting interviews as we receive candidates either virtually, on GoogleMeet, with the School Principal and General Manager, or, preferably, in person. We will close the position once it is filled.


Responsibilities


General

  • Classroom Practice
  • Lesson planning, lesson delivery, exam/test assessment, and grades/comment recording according to current practices 
  • Returning student work with professional and constructive feedback and corrections
  • Creation, documentation of, and distribution of class assignments and homework
  • Student management in assigned duties for regular and irregular school functions
  • A clean and safe classroom environment with educational displays
  • Employees are required to clean their own spaces to ensure the integrity of work, workstations, and valuables kept in the classroom
  • ASA syllabus creation according to current standards and current iteration of standards of quality and outcomes
  • The use or rubrics and objective evaluations in all grading practices 
  • Regular Professional Practices 
  • Cleanliness of shared spaces after use - Science Lab, STEM Lab, outdoor spaces, Breakout Rooms, shared offices, borrowed classrooms, hallways, etc. 
  • All employees are responsible for planning in a clean up of these spaces as part of their classes or meeting uses of these rooms
  • Attendance at and contribution to meetings
  • Participation in professional development activities within the school
  • Attendance at  annual Parent-Teacher Conferences and scheduled Parent Meetings
  • Attendance at official SPAS functions, field trips, in-school events
  • Contributions to monthly assemblies and the SPAS Student of the Month and Citizenship Award programs
  • Professional Collaboration
  • Following the direction and reasonable requests of school administration and office administration 
  • Communicating with parents about their academic and behavioral concerns of their child
  • Professional collaboration and courtesy towards other staff members and administration
  • Role model professional behavior and deter behavior that would qualify as a discipline concern 
  • Collective responsibility for school policy implementation
  • Full support and enactment of all Implementations and Individual Support Plans received from the SPAS 
  • Administration
  • Following guidelines of newsletter, report, grade, proactive communication with parents, and comments
  • Adhering to budget responsibilities for classroom spending, determined at the commencement of the school year
  • Collaboration in curriculum and school development as necessary

Specific

  • Standards & Standards-Based Grading
  • Implementation of relegated educational standards appropriate to your assigned classes according to the schedule,  as well as the evaluation of students based on their ability to reach those standards on the school’s published grading system; middle school or high school
  • The use of any/all online provided materials purchased for PreAP and AP classes as part of the regular conduct of any assigned PreAP and AP classes
  • Parent-Teacher Conference Responsibilities 
  • ELA, Science, Social Studies, and Math:  Prepare documents, materials, and presentation for discussion about each student during PTCs which at a base will include MAP test results and their interpretation, student work, student scores, and student behavioral progress
  • All Elective Classes:  Prepare insightful and informed feedback based on a student’s individual progress as well as measurable goals for the student’s improvement if a PTC is requested by the parent
  • When not in a PTC; filling a role in aiding parents, guiding parents, or supervising students during PTCs
  • ASA Outcomes
  • If assigned a Capstone Extracurricular; create an outward facing outcome for the program, ie. Math Olympiad competitions with other schools, Sports competitions with other schools, Science Olympiad Competition of Knowledge with invitations to other schools, VEX competition attendance and partition, Drama/Theater productions, etc

Work Day: 7:40AM - 4:40PM

 

Requirements

  • Have a minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution 
  • Hold an F-4 or other F visa with USA, CAN, UK, AUS, NZ, IRE, or SA citizenship or Korean citizenship
  • Apostilled Diploma and Criminal Background Check
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Major: Math Education, Secondary Education, etc. 

 

Working Conditions

  • Student Age: Middle and High School
  • Starting Date: ASAP
  • Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:40 A.M. - 4:40 P.M.
  • Workplace Language: English 
  • Once a week: -4:50PM for Staff Meeting
  • Weekly Student Contact Hours: 2
  • Class Hours: 20-25
  • ASA: Included in Contact Hours
  • Other Duties: Lunch/Recess supervision, included in Contact Hours
  • Contract Term: Annual, Renewable upon successful evaluation and mutual agreement

 

Standards: Common Core Mathematics
The Math role will be for both middle school-level math, as well as math in PreAP and APs. Weekly lesson plans and LMS updates

School Principal, Vice Principal, Dean of Students, Curriculum Coordinator

 

The mathematics department of SPAS Bundang is growing rapidly, and to meet the needs of the students’ abilities and to provide a full range of math offerings, SPAS is seeking dynamic math teachers to join our team. The SPAS Bundang math offerings range from general Grade 6 math to AP Calculus. A well-qualified candidate will have experience with higher-level math in their education and/or their teaching experience; a strong candidate will have experience in AP education in previous positions.
